About the Position

Senior Infrastructure Engineer required to provide remote Support to UK and African Warehouses and Sites. Key responsibilities will include Serves, Networks, Desktops and laptops, Infrastructure, System Security and Data Protection

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Servers:

  • Ensure that servers are of sufficient capacity by regular monitoring of utilisation
  • Ensure that server software and operating systems are updated on a regular basis
  • Plan and manage installation and implementation of servers and system software
  • Plan and manage installation and implementation of software packages
  • Ensure that databases are managed and monitored
  • Provide support for servers in conjunction with sub-contractors
  • Provide electronic mail of a sufficient capacity to authorized users

Network:

  • Ensure that the network is of sufficient capacity by regular monitoring of utilisation
  • Ensure that network devices are configured and maintained properly
  • Ensure that network devices are of sufficient capacity
  • Ensure that networks are secured from unauthorised external access
  • Ensure that connectivity between sites is available and of sufficient capacity
  • Control and monitor internet usage in accordance with company policy

Desktops and Laptops:

  • Ensure that user devices at all assigned sites function properly and are of sufficient capacity
  • Plan and manage installation and implementation of workstations
  • Ensure that operating systems and software on workstations are updated regularly
  • Provide user support on IT related issues in conjunction with sub-contractors

Infrastructure:

  • Ensure that generators, UPS and cooling systems are of sufficient capacity to support the facilities
  • Ensure that generators, UPS and cooling systems are serviced regularly
  • Ensure that printer toner cartridges are ordered timeously
  • Ensure that printers are serviced regularly
  • Ensure that tele- and video conferencing facilities are maintained and available
  • System Security and Data Protection
  • Ensure that access to systems and data is secured
  • Maintain user logins and security groups
  • Ensure that anti-virus software is deployed and updated on all servers and workstations
  • Implement and manage firewalls in accordance with policies
  • Ensure that PCI compliance is maintained
  • Maintain and enforce security policies on all servers and workstations
  • Ensure that all company data is backed up and recoverable
  • Maintain electronic mailing groups by adding new authorised users and removing users that have left the company or are no longer authorised
  • Implement and regularly test a disaster recovery and business continuation plan

Management:

  • Manage the desktop and server support functions and provide training where necessary
  • Maintain documentation on the equipment and operational procedures at each site
  • Implement and enforce IT policies and procedures
  • Provide a helpdesk function to manage user requests and issues
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers of hardware, software and facilities
  • Obtain quotes for purchases of hardware and software
  • Obtain capex and place orders for hardware and software
  • Implement and enforce procedures to manage change requests
  • Plan and manage changes to system hardware

Out of Hours Support:

  • Ability to accept and respond to business-critical calls outside of normal working hours, with responsibility shared between all members of the IT team on a rotation basis

ACADEMIC & TRADES QUALIFICATIONS, WORK EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Matric/Grade 12 or A-Levels
  • Degree or diploma in an engineering/science/business discipline
  • 10 years' experience in server hardware, software and networking with a minimum of 3 years in a comparable senior role
  • Certification in at least two of any of the following disciplines: Firewalling (i.e. Fortinet/Cisco/Checkpoint), Networking (i.e. Cisco/HP/Juniper), Microsoft (i.e. MCSA/MSCE); Cloud Computing (Azure/Google/AWS), Linux (i.e. Redhat/SUSE/Ubuntu), ITIL
  • Good knowledge of network security and computer security
