About the Position


  • Assistance with the design of the layout of the plant.
  • Generation of material take-offs for design studies and project costing purposes.
  • Assessment and application of client specifications in all aspects of the design phase.
  • Liaison with the Client and Sub-contractors to ensure functionally, safe installation
  • and maintenance within the project.
  • Execution of basic and detail mechanical design.
  • Overseeing of vendor & subcontractor equipment design and fabrication.
  • Mechanical design and detailing of equipment, heat exchangers & vessels.
  • Assist with the Procurement function - Compiling mechanical equipment RFQ's,
  • compiling a detailed mechanical scope of supply for mechanical subcontract,
  • technical evaluations, attend and/or lead kick-off meetings with vendors & mechanical
  • subcontractors.
  • Evaluation of subcontractor and equipment vendors' proposals received - technical
  • and commercial.
  • Assist in drafting and piping/pipe supports modelling.
  • Management of the interactive flow of information between Drawing Office,
  • Mechanical Design Engineers and Civil, Structural and Mechanical Sub-Contractors.
  • Liaising with supplementary external consultants.
  • Investigation and Co-ordination of corrective measures that may arise on site during
  • construction and warrantee period.
  • Manage the mechanical subcontractor and suppliers to meet deliverables (technical,
  • programme, cost)
  • Site installation and commissioning support.
  • Assist in drafting and checking of contracts.
  • Responsible for Pipe Stress Analysis and pressure vessel design.
  • Selection and design of Piping Supports.
  • Compilation and management of as-built documentation.
  • Compilation and management of vendor and subcontractor databooks.
  • Compilation and management of plant technical and maintenance manuals.
  • Undertaking of small projects as required.
  • Investigation and Co-ordination of corrective measures that may arise on site during
  • construction and warrantee period.

Quality Health & Safety

  • Ensure health and safety legislation and contractual obligations pertaining to health &
  • safety are adhered to throughout the project.
  • Read and understand the ISO9001:2008 manual for the procedures pertaining to the
  • Engineering and Projects Division.

External Relations

  • Continuously liaise with the client on all technical or contractual aspects of the project
  • Interact with partners or suppliers


  • Attend all training seminars pertaining to this position.
  • Perform any other duties required by your designated Lead Engineer or Project
  • Manager.


  • Perform all duties to ISO 9001:2008 Quality Standard Requirements.
  • Function as part of a Team.
  • Ensure total confidentiality of all information, internal and external, pertaining to the
  • business and , all its Employees and Management.
  • Perform all necessary computer functions
  • Communicate with clients in a professional manner.


  • BSc or BTech Mechanical Engineering Qualification
  • 10 Years experience in a project environment
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer will be an advantage
  • Must be computer literate (MS Office)
  • Have good communication and organisational skills.


  • You will be required to perform your duties at Johannesburg offices, or any other place depending on project or company requirements, essential to the successful completion of the project.
